New Rules for Engaging Marketing Sponsors

Online

Barbara Harrington, Founding Partner, Sponsorship Network

June 15, 2010
9:30 - 10:30 am

Event Description

Traditional advertising plummeted nearly 8% in 2009, yet marketing sponsorships with nonprofits held their own and are poised to jump 3% in 2010. In this online training, learn how well-crafted marketing sponsorships programs can deliver powerful results to both nonprofits of all sizes and their corporate partners.

We'll take a look at how three nonprofits landed dream sponsors by following the Essence of Sponsorship Model, developed by Sponsorship Network, and you'll gain an understanding of the real reasons most corporations reject nonprofit sponsorship proposals. Learn how to build value into your packages, zero-in on companies most likely to commit, and face your selling reality: Do internal turf wars stifle selling? Is your board truly supportive of sponsorship efforts? Find out how the new sponsorship model educates, inspires, and transforms conflicts once and for all.

Barbara's insights into sponsorship programs are highlighted in a Sponsorship Q & A she had with TACS last summer.

About the Presenter

Barbara Harrington established Sponsorship Network with Randy Murray in 1992. As a founding partner, she has created and implemented ethical sponsorship programs for clients nationwide including: Fore Hope in Columbus, OH; The Hope Center in Lexington, KY; and The Love Ride with Jay Leno in Los Angeles, CA.

Barbara works closely with clients to create sponsorship programs that deliver results to the organization and well as drive sales for corporate decision makers. Her innovative benefits and accurate assessment of sponsorship values have lead to dramatic success for clients.

Barbara has published two sponsorship books, The Essence of Sponsorship and Advance Sponsorship Sales, that draw upon her vast sales and marketing experience. Prior to starting Sponsorship Network, Barbara worked as PR Manager and News Anchor.

Comments from Past Participants

“I was very impressed both with our instructor and with my fellow attendees. All too often, workshops lack focus or simply don't provide the meaningful knowledge that I am seeking. Neither of these was the case for this workshop. If this was characteristic of all TACS workshops, my only suggestion would be to keep it up.”

“So excited to start applying for some grants! This was the BEST class I've taken at TACS to date! So much information that is valuable...very helpful to us as a brand new nonprofit! Our board is scheduled to develop a strategic plan...I'm looking forward to the follow-up class.”

“Rick was antastic at giving relevant information and always eager to hear feedback and questions from us. I really enjoyed the workshop as well as got a lot out of it. It motivated and inspired me to seek out grants.”

Signing Sponsors in a Lean Economy

Portland

Barbara Harrington, Founding Partner, The Sponsorship Network

July 23, 2009
8:30 am - 4:00 pm

Registration includes continental breakfast and lunch

Event Description

Even in a lean economy, companies continue to advertise. Starbucks announced the layoff of thousands of employees one week after launching its national "I'm In" sponsorship campaign with nonprofit HandsOn Network. This sponsorship coincided with the last presidential inauguration. The message: Visit participating locations January 21 - 25, pledge to donate five hours of service to your community, and receive a free tall brewed coffee.

Sponsorships with nonprofit organizations are powerful marketing tools for corporations. Sales are up because sponsorships outperform traditional advertising. However, to be successful in sponsorship sales, nonprofits need clear ethical standards, a thorough understanding of the benefits corporations really crave, and a way to deliver that information to marketing decision-makers.

This workshop is appropriate for any size organization and is not limited to special event sponsorships. Join Barbara to discuss top local companies and what they really desire from nonprofit partnerships. National sponsorships will also be explored.

This fast-paced, practical presentation will address:

  • Powerful Ideas for Increasing Sales in a Lean Economy
  • Sponsorship and Ethics - Drafting a Statement of Excellence
  • Building Connections in the Electronic Era
  • Motivating Decision - Makers with Effective Proposals (print & electronic)
  • Inspiring and Educating Your Board
  • Valuing Benefits and Pricing Packages Competitively
  • Excellent Case Studies that Drive Sales for the Sponsor
  • Sponsorship Terminology - Glossary of Latest Lingo

Barbara's insights into sponsorship programs are highlighted in a recent Sponsorship Q & A she had with TACS.
