Event Description

In the last 20 years there has been a substantial increase in the diversity of the racial and ethnic groups within our community. This increased diversity brings value as well as challenge. As nonprofit organizations, how do we flex our planning and service delivery systems to respond to the different needs, styles and realities that come with different cultural frameworks? Join us on February 10th to find out.

This session of DLN will be lively, fun and informative! We have invited Cultural Informants from the following 12 communities: Native American, Chinese, Arab, Southeast Asian, Latino American, Immigrant Latino, Russian, Korean, African Immigrant, African American, Eastern European, and Japanese.

You will have "up close and personal" time to hear from cultural experts and ask questions that will help you more effectively serve your clients. Cultural informants will address the following questions:

• Why is it important to know about the history of people in this cultural group?
• How do people in this cultural group approach social services?
• In collecting information about individuals and families for records - what might offend people?
• Is there a general cultural response to authority figures?
• What are the best ways to offer help to people?
• In family situations how are children, adults and elders most appropriately approached?
